ASVAGHOSHA

Asvaghosha, who belonged to the first or second century AD, was the most outstanding Buddhist writer in Sanskrit. He was a great philosopher, poet and a debater, who adorned the court of Kanishka. His Mahakavya, the Buddhacharita narrates the story of Buddha. Saundarananda is another renowned poetical work of Asvaghosa.
