Sarojini Naidu  

Sarojini Naidu (1879-1949), the first woman president of Congress and the first woman governor of an Indian state, was a great poetess whose romanticism charmed readers in India and Europe. Her Golden Threshold (1905), The Broken Wing (1917), The Bird of Time and The Magic Lute are works of great literary merit. She was commonly known as the 'Nightingale of India'.
