Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai 

Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai(b. 1912) shot to international fame with his novel Chemmeen, which has been translated in all the major Indian languages and some foreign languages. It has also been made into a film which became a mega hit and won the President's Gold Medal in 1966. Pillai is the recipient of several awards including the Sahitya Akademi Award (1957), Soviet Land-Nehru Award (1975) and Jnanpith Award (1984).
