FOLK  DANCES OF LAKSHADWEEP 

 

Lava Dance:

The Lava Dance is a popular dance of Minicoy Island that is performed on festive occasions. It is a colourful and energetic dance form in which the dancers wear multi-coloured costumes and dance to the tune of drums.

Kolkali Dance:

The Kolkali dance is a "stick dance", which is performed only by men in pairs using sticks. The dancers move in circles following the rhythm produced by the sticks and dance gains in tempo as it progresses.

Parichakali Dance:

Parichakali is a folk dance of Lakshadweep Islands, which is described as the "Shield Dance", as it is performed using shields and swords. It is a kind of martial art form in which the dancers perform acts of bravery while enacting scenes from famous battles or the freedom struggle.
