INDIAN DANCE

FOLK  DANCES OF PUDUCHERRY

Garadi:

The Garadi dance traces its origin to the ancient days of the Ramayana and it is believed to have been performed by the Vanar Sena or the army of monkeys to celebrate their victory over Ravana.  Today this dance is performed on all the festive occasions and the dancers disguise themselves as the Vanaras or monkeys and dance with sticks in their hands. The dancers wear  iron rings called the Anjali which produce a very melodious sound when the dance is performed.
